Have you priced out a Disney World Deluxe Resort and thought, “WHOA!”?
You’re not alone! Disney’s Deluxe Resorts and Villas come with some pretty impressive price tags, and the difference between a Value, Moderate, and Deluxe Resort can be significant.
So is staying Deluxe actually worth it?
Sometimes, absolutely. But not for everyone.
The trick is understanding what you’re paying for—and deciding whether those extras actually matter to your vacation.
That’s something I talk about with my clients all the time. A more expensive resort isn’t automatically a better vacation. But if the things that come with a Deluxe Resort line up with how you want to spend your Disney time, that higher price can make a lot of sense.

First, What Makes a Disney Resort “Deluxe”?
Disney Resort hotels are generally divided into three categories: Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. Deluxe Resorts are the highest tier, with Deluxe Villas offering additional accommodations designed for families and larger groups.
That doesn’t mean Deluxe is automatically the “best” choice.
It means you’re paying for a different combination of location, space, amenities, dining, theming, recreation, and convenience.
And those differences can be significant.

You’re Paying for More Than a Nicer Room
Let’s start with something important: I don’t recommend choosing a Deluxe Resort simply because the room is nicer.
The real value is everything surrounding that room.
Many Deluxe Resorts put you close to the theme parks, offer multiple dining and recreation options, and create an atmosphere that makes the resort itself feel like part of your vacation.
For some families, that’s exactly what they’re looking for.
For others, it may not be worth paying hundreds of dollars more per night when they’re going to spend most of their time in the parks.
This is where knowing how you vacation matters.
If your plan is rope drop, park all day, return to the room to sleep, and do it all again tomorrow, you may not get enough value from a Deluxe Resort.
But if you enjoy slower mornings, resort time, great restaurants, beautiful pools, afternoon breaks, and being able to walk or boat to a park, the equation changes.

Space Really Can Matter
One of the practical advantages of Deluxe Resorts—and especially Deluxe Villas—is space.
Deluxe Resort rooms are generally larger than standard Value Resort rooms, and the Villas take that a step further with options ranging from studios to one-, two-, and three-bedroom accommodations.
For larger families or multigenerational groups, that extra space can be a game changer.
I know this one from personal experience.
My family recently stayed in a two-bedroom villa at Disney’s Old Key West Resort with eight adults and a teenager. Having a full kitchen, laundry facilities, separate living space, and multiple bedrooms gave us something we couldn’t get from a standard hotel room:
room to breathe.
After spending the day surrounded by crowds, it was wonderful to come back to a place where everyone could spread out and relax.
That’s the kind of benefit you don’t necessarily see when you’re comparing nightly rates on a spreadsheet.
Location, Location, Location
This is one of the biggest reasons I think Deluxe Resorts deserve serious consideration.
Several Deluxe Resorts are located incredibly close to the theme parks, and some offer transportation options that can make getting around especially convenient.

Magic Kingdom Area
Disney’s Contemporary Resort is within walking distance of Magic Kingdom, while Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort offer convenient access via monorail, boat, and other Disney transportation options.
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is another favorite of mine. It isn’t walkable to Magic Kingdom, but the boat ride is relaxing and can feel like part of the experience rather than simply transportation.

EPCOT and Hollywood Studios Area
Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Yacht Club Resort, and BoardWalk Inn are particularly appealing if EPCOT and Hollywood Studios are high on your vacation list.
From these resorts, you can walk or use Disney’s Friendship Boats to reach the parks, and the EPCOT-area resorts are also connected to the Disney Skyliner network.
That convenience can be worth a lot when you’re traveling with tired kids—or tired adults.

A Deluxe Resort Can Feel Like a Second Vacation
This might be my favorite thing about Disney’s Deluxe Resorts.
The resort itself can become part of the destination.
Disney doesn’t simply decorate these hotels. It creates environments that transport you somewhere else.
At Animal Kingdom Lodge, you can watch African wildlife from the resort grounds while surrounded by architecture and design inspired by African culture.
At Wilderness Lodge, the enormous lobby, towering fireplace, and Pacific Northwest-inspired setting immediately make you feel like you’ve left Central Florida behind.
The Polynesian transports you to the South Pacific. Grand Floridian embraces Victorian elegance. And the EPCOT-area resorts each offer their own take on coastal or boardwalk-inspired charm.
This is why I sometimes describe a Deluxe stay as two vacations in one.
You get Disney—but you also get an immersive resort experience that can stand on its own.

Dining Is a Big Part of the Deluxe Experience
If dining is important to you, Deluxe Resorts have another advantage.
Many offer multiple table-service restaurants, lounges, Quick-Service options, and bars, making it possible to spend an entire evening at your resort without heading back into a theme park.
And because many Deluxe Resorts are clustered near one another, you can often explore additional dining options without going far.
For me, this is a big part of the appeal.
A Disney vacation doesn’t have to mean parks from open to close every single day.
Sometimes a great dinner, a drink at a resort lounge, and a leisurely walk around a beautiful resort is exactly what you need.

Resort Amenities and Recreation
Deluxe Resorts also tend to offer a broader range of amenities and recreation. You’ll find beautiful pools, fitness centers, resort activities, shopping, lounges, dining, and—in select locations—spa services.
And then there are the little things that make you want to spend time at the resort instead of simply using it as a place to sleep. If you’re paying for Deluxe, I encourage you to actually enjoy the Deluxe experience.
Don’t spend all that money on a beautiful resort and then never see it!

What About Deluxe Resort Perks?
One of the benefits that can make a Deluxe stay particularly appealing is Extended Evening Theme Park Entry.
Eligible guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts, Deluxe Villas, and other eligible resorts can take advantage of select extended evening hours at designated theme parks on select nights.
The schedule and participating park can change, so always check the current Disney schedule when planning your trip.
If you’re staying Deluxe specifically because you want to take advantage of this perk, I recommend building your park plans around the dates when Extended Evening Theme Park Entry is offered.
For some families, the opportunity to enjoy attractions later in the evening with a Deluxe Resort benefit can add real value to the stay.

What About Club Level?
If you want to take the Deluxe experience another step further, some Deluxe Resorts offer Club Level accommodations.
Club Level provides access to a dedicated lounge and concierge services, along with food and beverage offerings throughout the day. Is it worth the additional cost?
That’s a much more personal calculation—and one I wouldn’t automatically recommend.
If you value convenience, enjoy having food and beverages available throughout the day, or simply appreciate the elevated service and lounge environment, it can be a wonderful splurge.
But if you’re rarely at your resort, you may not get enough use out of it to justify the premium. Again, it comes down to how you vacation.

So, Who Should Consider a Deluxe Resort?
A Deluxe Resort may be a particularly good fit if you:
- Want a more luxurious or immersive resort experience.
- Plan to spend meaningful time at your resort.
- Value convenient access to one or more theme parks.
- Enjoy table-service dining, lounges, and resort recreation.
- Are traveling with a larger or multigenerational group.
- Want more space or the flexibility of a Deluxe Villa.
- Want to take advantage of Extended Evening Theme Park Entry.
- Prefer to build some slower, more relaxed days into your Disney vacation.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t recommend paying for Deluxe simply because you think you “should” stay at the highest resort category.
If your family is happiest spending sunrise to fireworks in the parks and barely sees the resort, a Value or Moderate Resort may be a much better use of your vacation budget.
And that’s perfectly okay.
How to Make a Deluxe Disney Vacation Worth It
If you’re going to spend more for Deluxe, use what you’re paying for.
Build in resort time.
Have breakfast at the resort.
Enjoy the pool.
Make a dinner reservation.
Explore the grounds.
Take advantage of the transportation options.
Sleep in one morning.
Have a drink at the lounge.
Let the resort be part of your vacation instead of simply being the place where you sleep.
That’s when I think the value of Deluxe really starts to show.
The Bottom Line: Is a Disney Deluxe Resort Worth It?
There’s no universal answer.
A Deluxe Resort isn’t worth the extra money for everyone.
But if location, space, dining, amenities, immersive theming, and resort time are important to you, the additional cost can absolutely make sense.
My philosophy when planning Disney vacations is pretty simple:
Don’t pay for what you don’t need. But don’t compromise on what’s important to you.
If being able to walk to EPCOT, relax at a beautiful resort after a long park day, have enough space for your extended family, or enjoy an exceptional resort restaurant is important to you, then Deluxe may be exactly where your vacation dollars belong.
And if those things aren’t important? Save the money and spend it somewhere else.
The goal isn’t to book the most expensive Disney vacation. It’s to book the Disney vacation that’s right for you.
And that’s where good planning comes in.
