Walt Disney World is unlike any other vacation destination. Spanning more than 25,000 acres in Central Florida, this magical destination includes four theme parks, two water parks, Disney Springs, dozens of resorts, and countless dining and entertainment options.
With so much to explore, one of the most common questions I hear from guests is:
“How do I get around Disney World?”
The answer is Disney’s extensive transportation system.
From the iconic monorails and scenic Skyliner gondolas to buses, boats, and Minnie Vans, Disney has created a transportation network designed to help guests move throughout the resort without needing to drive.
This guide is part of my Disney World Planning Basics series, created to help you understand each step of planning a successful Walt Disney World vacation.
If you’re just starting your planning journey, begin with my Disney World Vacation Planning Guide, where I walk you through everything from choosing your resort and tickets to transportation, dining, and park planning.

Disney Bus Transportation
Buses are the backbone of Walt Disney World’s transportation system.
They provide transportation between:
- Disney Resort hotels
- Theme parks
- Disney Springs
- Disney water parks
Buses typically begin operating before park opening and continue after park closing. Wait times vary depending on location, time of day, and demand.
While buses may not be the most exciting transportation option, they are one of the most reliable ways to travel throughout the property.

Disney Boat Transportation
For a slower, more relaxing journey, guests can enjoy Disney’s water transportation.
Boat transportation operates between select locations, including:

Boats connect Magic Kingdom with:

EPCOT & Hollywood Studios Area

These adorable polka-dot vehicles operate through the Lyft app and are driven by Disney Cast Members.
Benefits include:
- Direct transportation anywhere on Disney property
- Car seats available
- Personalized service
Unlike Disney buses, monorails, Skyliner, and boats, Minnie Vans have an additional cost.
For families with young children, mobility concerns, or guests who value convenience, Minnie Vans can be a great option.
Disney Springs Transportation Update
If you plan to visit Disney Springs during your vacation, there is an important transportation update to know.
Guests traveling from Disney Springs to Disney Resort hotels using Disney transportation must now have either:
- A valid Disney Resort hotel reservation, or
- A confirmed dining reservation at that resort
This change is important to consider if you are planning a resort dining experience or a resort-hopping evening.
