One of the questions I hear most often as a Disney travel planner is:
“When is the best time to visit Walt Disney World?”
The truth is, there isn’t one perfect answer.
The best time to visit depends on your family’s priorities. Are you looking for lower crowds? Better prices? Cooler weather? Holiday celebrations? EPCOT festivals? Or are you simply working around the school calendar?
Every season offers something a little different.
This guide will help you understand what to expect throughout the year so you can choose the travel dates that best fit your family’s vacation goals.
If you’re just beginning to plan your trip, this article is part of my Disney World Planning Basics series. For a complete step-by-step roadmap, be sure to visit my Disney World Vacation Planning Guide, where you’ll find every stage of planning organized in one convenient place.
Mid-January Through Early February
If lower crowds are your top priority, this is often one of the best times to visit.
Following the holiday season, many families return to school and work, resulting in lighter crowds throughout the parks.
Benefits include:
- Shorter attraction wait times
- Lower resort prices
- Pleasant Florida temperatures
- Easier dining reservations
Keep in mind that runDisney race weekends can temporarily increase crowds, particularly around EPCOT and the resort hotels.
Late April Through Early May
This is one of my favorite times to visit Walt Disney World.
Spring Break crowds have ended, summer vacation hasn’t yet begun, and the weather is typically warm without the intense heat of midsummer.
You’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, featuring beautiful topiaries, outdoor kitchens, entertainment, and seasonal gardens.
Late August Through Early November
After schools return to session, crowd levels generally become more manageable.
This season is especially popular because guests can experience:
- Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
- EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival
- Halloween decorations throughout Magic Kingdom
The biggest considerations during this time are Florida’s summer heat and the possibility of tropical storms or hurricanes.
If traveling during this season, I recommend purchasing travel protection and keeping your plans flexible.

Holidays at Walt Disney World
Although the holidays bring some of the year’s largest crowds, they also offer some of Disney’s most spectacular experiences.
Guests visiting during November and December can enjoy:
- Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
- EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays
- Gingerbread displays at Disney Resorts
- Holiday entertainment throughout the parks
If experiencing Disney during the holidays is on your bucket list, planning well in advance is essential.
Consider More Than Crowd Levels
Choosing the best time to visit isn’t just about avoiding crowds.
Also consider:
Your Budget
Traveling during Value Season often means lower resort prices and more promotional offers.

Weather
Central Florida summers are hot, humid, and bring afternoon thunderstorms.
Winter offers cooler temperatures that many guests find more comfortable for long park days.
Special Events
Throughout the year, Walt Disney World hosts:
These events may influence both crowd levels and pricing.
Make the Most of Early Theme Park Entry
One of the biggest benefits of staying at a Disney Resort hotel is Early Theme Park Entry, available every day at all four theme parks.
Guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts and Deluxe Villas may also enjoy Extended Evening Theme Park Hours on select nights.
These perks can help you experience popular attractions with shorter wait times, regardless of when you visit.
