There’s something incredibly special about visiting the place where Disney magic first began. As someone who has spent years visiting Walt Disney World, I wasn’t sure what to expect on my first trip to Disneyland Resort. Would it feel too small? Would I miss having four parks and dozens of resort hotels? Those questions disappeared the moment I walked down Main Street, U.S.A. toward Sleeping Beauty Castle. Although the castle is much smaller than Cinderella Castle in Florida, there’s something very charming about standing in the very park that Walt Disney himself walked through and dreamed about.

Since that first visit, I’ve returned to experience Halloween Time, Oogie Boogie Bash, the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration, and a stay at the iconic Disneyland Hotel Club Level. Every trip has reminded me that Disneyland isn’t simply a smaller Walt Disney World. It’s a destination with its own personality, traditions, and magic.
Whether you’re planning your very first Disneyland vacation or returning to see what’s new, this Disneyland Resort Guide will help you discover why Walt’s original park continues to capture the hearts of guests from around the world.

Why Visit Disneyland Resort?
Disneyland Resort may be smaller than Walt Disney World, but that’s actually one of its greatest strengths.
Everything is within walking distance. You can stroll from Disneyland Park to Disney California Adventure in just a few minutes, making Park Hopper tickets incredibly convenient. The compact layout means less time on transportation and more time enjoying attractions, dining, entertainment, and the little details that make Disney vacations so memorable.

What I love most about Disneyland is its history. This is the only Disney park that Walt Disney personally oversaw during its construction and enjoyed with guests. As you explore the park, you’ll find touches of Walt’s vision everywhere—from the apartment above the Fire Station on Main Street to attractions that have delighted families for generations.
Disneyland vs. Walt Disney World
One of the questions I’m asked most often is whether Disneyland is “worth it” if you’ve already visited Walt Disney World.
My answer is always the same—absolutely!
While Walt Disney World offers four theme parks and a vast resort, Disneyland provides a more intimate experience. Many classic attractions have unique versions you’ll only find in California, and the ability to walk almost everywhere makes touring the resort feel much more relaxed.
| Disneyland Resort | Walt Disney World |

Disneyland Park
Every visit begins the same way for me—with a walk down Main Street, U.S.A.
No matter how many times I visit, seeing Sleeping Beauty Castle at the end of the street never gets old. The castle may not be the largest, but it’s filled with history and charm.

One thing I appreciate about Disneyland Park is how easy it is to explore. Attractions are close together, Lightning Lane Multi Pass is straightforward to use, and it’s easy to move from one land to another without feeling rushed.
My Must-Do Attractions
- Pirates of the Caribbean (my favorite Disney version!)
- Haunted Mansion Holiday (seasonal)
- Indiana Jones Adventure
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- “it’s a small world”
Jessica Recommends ❤️
Don’t rush through Main Street first thing in the morning. Take a few extra minutes to soak in the atmosphere, listen to the music, and admire the details. It’s one of my favorite parts of every visit.
Mickey’s Toontown
One of the biggest surprises during my first Disneyland trip was just how much I enjoyed Mickey’s Toontown.

This isn’t simply a place to meet Mickey and his friends! It’s an interactive playground where younger guests can climb, explore, splash, and play. The addition of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway has made this land even more enjoyable for families.
Disney California Adventure Park
Over the years, Disney California Adventure has grown into one of my favorite Disney parks.
From the moment you step onto Buena Vista Street to watching the neon lights come alive in Cars Land each evening, this park feels energetic, creative, and full of surprises.
Don’t Miss
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
- Soarin’ Around the World
- Incredicoaster
- Avengers Campus
- Pixar Pier
Cars Land deserves its own mention. Seeing Radiator Springs illuminated at sunset while “Sh-Boom” plays overhead is one of those Disney moments that always makes me smile.
Entertainment That Brings the Resort to Life
Disneyland’s entertainment is one of the biggest reasons I keep returning.
During my recent visits, I had the opportunity to experience the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration, and it reminded me just how spectacular Disneyland entertainment can be.
Some of my favorites include:
- Paint the Night – Watching this beloved nighttime parade return during the anniversary celebration was truly special.
- World of Color Happiness! – One of my favorite nighttime spectaculars. If your budget allows, the dessert party is a wonderful way to enjoy reserved viewing while sampling delicious treats.
- Fantasmic! – Disneyland’s intimate setting along the Rivers of America creates a viewing experience unlike any other.
- Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga – A must-see for Star Wars fans visiting Galaxy’s Edge.
Downtown Disney District
One of the things I appreciate most about Disneyland Resort is that the fun doesn’t end when the parks close.

Downtown Disney is just steps from both parks and offers a fantastic mix of shopping, dining, and live entertainment. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a day in the parks or enjoy dinner on your arrival day.
Disneyland Resort Hotels
One of my favorite Disneyland experiences was staying Club Level at the Disneyland Hotel.
The hotel beautifully blends Disney nostalgia with modern comfort, and being surrounded by Disney history made the stay feel extra special.
The resort’s three Disney-owned hotels each offer something unique:
Disneyland Hotel
Perfect for guests who appreciate Disney history, classic theming, and a touch of luxury.
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
Ideal for guests wanting direct access to Disney California Adventure and a relaxing Craftsman-inspired atmosphere.
Pixar Place Hotel
Bright, fun, and perfect for Pixar fans, with playful touches throughout the newly reimagined property.
Seasonal Magic
Every season offers something unique, but Halloween has quickly become one of my favorite times to visit.
Seeing the parks transformed with festive décor, experiencing Haunted Mansion Holiday, and attending Oogie Boogie Bash completely changed my perspective on Disneyland during the fall. The atmosphere is unlike anything I’ve experienced at Walt Disney World.
The holiday season is equally magical, with “it’s a small world” Holiday, festive entertainment, and Sleeping Beauty Castle shimmering beneath thousands of lights.
My Favorite Disneyland Memories
Every trip has given me another reason to return.
Some moments I’ll never forget include:

❤️ Walking through Walt Disney’s original park for the first time.
- ❤️ Watching the neon lights come alive in Cars Land at sunset.
- ❤️ Staying Club Level at the Disneyland Hotel.
- ❤️ Enjoying the World of Color dessert party.
- ❤️ Experiencing Haunted Mansion Holiday during Halloween Time.
- ❤️ Celebrating Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary.
Those experiences remind me that Disneyland isn’t simply about attractions—it’s about the memories you create along the way.
Frequently Asked Questions
I recommend at least three days—one for Disneyland Park, one for Disney California Adventure, and a third to revisit favorites or enjoy both parks with a Park Hopper ticket.
If you’re visiting during busy seasons, I generally find Lightning Lane Multi Pass to be a worthwhile investment.
Yes! One of Disneyland Resort’s greatest advantages is how close everything is. Walking between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure takes just a few minutes.
Final Thoughts
Every Disney destination has its own personality, but Disneyland will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s where the magic began.
There’s something inspiring about standing in the park Walt Disney dreamed of, surrounded by attractions that have delighted generations while also experiencing exciting adventures like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and the ever-evolving entertainment that keeps guests coming back year after year.
Whether you’re planning your very first visit or returning to create new memories, I encourage you to slow down, notice the details, and enjoy everything that makes Disneyland so unique. It may be smaller than Walt Disney World, but its history, charm, and atmosphere make it a destination unlike any other.
