Each location offers its unique charm and different character dining options. It’s not difficult to find the perfect choice for you. Let’s take a closer look at what makes character dining on Disney properties so special.

The Characters Come to You
One of my favorite things about character dining? You don’t have to chase down your favorite characters—they come to you!
Instead of spending part of your park day waiting in a character meet-and-greet line, you can sit back, enjoy your meal, and let the characters make their way around the restaurant. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, the princesses, Pooh and friends, and plenty of other Disney favorites stop at your table, interact with your group, and pose for photos.
And the fun doesn’t stop with the characters. Many experiences dress the characters in outfits that perfectly match the restaurant’s theme. At Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, for example, Donald is ready to head out on safari!

The Theming Is Part of the Experience
If there’s one thing Disney does exceptionally well, it’s storytelling—and character dining is no exception.
The restaurants are designed to make the experience feel like more than just a meal. You might find yourself dining inside Cinderella Castle, surrounded by the charm of a Victorian garden, stepping into an enchanted castle, or enjoying the warmth of a California craftsman-style lodge.
The food may bring you to the table, but the atmosphere and characters are what make it an experience.

So Many Ways to Dine with Disney Friends
One of the things I love about character dining is that there really isn’t a single “Disney character meal.” The experiences are surprisingly different from one another, with different characters, settings, menus, and price points.
Here are just a few of the character dining experiences you may want to consider:
- Cinderella’s Royal Table – Magic Kingdom: Dine inside Cinderella Castle while meeting Disney Princesses in a truly royal setting. This is a particularly memorable choice for princess fans—and there’s something pretty special about looking out over Fantasyland from inside the castle.
- Be Our Guest – Magic Kingdom: Step inside the Beast’s enchanted castle for a meal surrounded by incredible Beauty and the Beast theming. The Beast makes appearances during the experience.
- Topolino’s Terrace – Disney’s Riviera Resort: Start your day with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy dressed in their artistic best. The food and character interaction make this one of my favorite character breakfast experiences at Walt Disney World.
- Storytellers Cafe – Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa: The warm, craftsman-style setting is the perfect backdrop for dining with Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, and friends. It’s a completely different feel from many of the character meals you’ll find at Walt Disney World.
- Goofy’s Kitchen – Disneyland Hotel: Goofy is in charge, so you know this meal is going to be fun! The playful, cartoon-inspired setting and unpredictable character antics make this a lively choice for families and Disney fans of all ages.
- The Crystal Palace – Magic Kingdom: Step into a beautiful Victorian-inspired setting and dine with Winnie the Pooh and friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. For Pooh fans, it doesn’t get much better than this.
And that’s just the beginning! Disney has character dining experiences across both Walt Disney World and Disneyland, each with its own combination of characters, food, and atmosphere.

Know Before You Book
Character dining is one of those Disney experiences where you are paying for more than the food. You’re also paying for the convenience and fun of having beloved characters come directly to your table.
That generally means a higher price than you might pay for a typical table-service meal. Alcoholic beverages and some specialty items may cost extra, and many character meals are all-you-care-to-enjoy experiences.
If you’re using the Disney Dining Plan, character dining can be a great way to use your dining credits—but pay attention to how many credits a particular restaurant requires. Some experiences require two dining plan credits rather than one.
Another thing to know: some Disney dining experiences require payment in advance when you make your reservation, so be sure to understand the cancellation and payment policies before booking.

Character Dining Isn’t Just for Kids
Let’s put this misconception to rest right now: you are never too old for character dining.
Yes, kids absolutely love it. But there’s something pretty wonderful about watching an adult’s face light up when Mickey walks over to the table or getting a photo with a character you loved as a kid.
For many Disney fans, character dining is less about the age of the person at the table and more about the nostalgia and memories you’re creating together.
I’ve had some of my own favorite Disney memories sitting around a table with a character who made me smile decades ago. Sometimes the magic is just as much for the adults as it is for the kids.

Make Those Reservations!
Character dining is popular—and some experiences are very popular.
Advance dining reservations are highly recommended, especially if you have your heart set on a particular restaurant or character. Disney currently allows guests to make dining reservations 60 days in advance, with some resort guests able to make reservations for their entire stay beginning 60 days before check-in.
And here’s my biggest piece of advice: Don’t give up if you don’t find what you want right away.
Even if you’re ready to make your reservation the moment your booking window opens and there’s nothing available, keep checking. Plans change, vacations get adjusted, and reservations are cancelled all the time. Availability can pop up weeks—or even just a day—before you want to dine.
A little persistence can pay off.

Final Thoughts
Character dining is one of those Disney experiences that combines several things I love about a Disney vacation: great storytelling, immersive theming, delicious food, and a little Disney magic at your table.
Whether you’re introducing your kids to their favorite characters, reliving childhood memories yourself, or simply looking for a memorable meal, character dining can be worth adding to your vacation.
Just remember: you’re not simply booking a meal. You’re booking an experience.
And sometimes, that character photo you get while you’re sitting at the table becomes one of your favorite vacation memories.
