Planning a Walt Disney World vacation? With four theme parks packed with rides, shows, and experiences, deciding what deserves a spot on your must-do list can feel overwhelming.
My advice? Don’t try to do everything. Start with the attractions that matter most to you and your travel party.
Some rides are all about thrills. Others pull you into a favorite Disney story, bring back a little nostalgia, or give the whole family something to enjoy together. And sometimes, the attractions you remember most are the ones you didn’t expect to love!
I’ve visited Disney World many times, and I’ve learned that the best park day isn’t necessarily the one where you ride the most attractions. It’s the one where you make time for the experiences that matter to you.
Here are my picks for the best rides at each park, along with a few tips to help you plan your day.

Magic Kingdom: Classic Disney Favorites and Big Thrills
Magic Kingdom is where you’ll find many of the attractions people picture when they think of Disney World. From classic dark rides to newer coasters, there’s something for almost every age and thrill level.
These are the attractions I’d put near the top of my list.
TRON Lightcycle / Run
If you love high-speed coasters, TRON Lightcycle / Run deserves a look. Inspired by the digital world of TRON, this attraction sends riders racing through the Grid on a lightcycle-style vehicle.
It’s fast, futuristic, and very different from Magic Kingdom’s traditional rides. It’s best suited to guests who enjoy an intense coaster experience.
My planning tip: TRON is a popular attraction, so think about how it fits into your park strategy before you arrive. Check the My Disney Experience app for current Lightning Lane options and availability, and consider Early Theme Park Entry if you’re eligible as a Disney Resort hotel guest.
If intense coasters aren’t your thing, don’t feel like you have to ride it just because it’s popular. There are plenty of other ways to enjoy Magic Kingdom!
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a great choice for families who want a little excitement without jumping straight into the more intense coasters. The ride combines gentle hills and swinging mine cars with scenes inspired by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
It’s a good middle ground for guests who want something more adventurous than a traditional dark ride but aren’t looking for an extreme thrill.
My planning tip: This attraction can have long waits, particularly during busy periods. If it’s a priority for your family, decide ahead of time whether you’ll try for an early ride or look into available Lightning Lane options.
Haunted Mansion
There are 999 happy haunts in the Haunted Mansion, but there’s always room for one more!
This classic attraction combines wonderfully detailed sets, spooky surprises, and Disney’s signature sense of humor. It’s one of those rides where the details are just as enjoyable as the overall experience. I always recommend taking a moment to appreciate the atmosphere around the attraction, too.
Keep in mind that younger children may find some scenes a little spooky, even though this isn’t a thrill ride.
Pirates of the Caribbean
I’m going to let you in on a personal favorite: Pirates of the Caribbean is my favorite Disney park attraction!
I love the immersive setting, the mischievous pirates, and the little details tucked throughout the ride. And yes, the music is likely to stay with you long after you’ve left the park.
This slow-moving boat ride doesn’t have a height requirement, making it a popular choice for families. However, the dark scenes, loud sounds, and occasional drops may be intimidating for very young children.
For me, Pirates is a perfect reminder that a Disney favorite doesn’t have to be the fastest or newest attraction to be memorable.
EPCOT: Big Adventures and Beloved Stories
EPCOT offers a mix of high-energy attractions, imaginative storytelling, and classic experiences. It’s also a park where I recommend leaving room to explore rather than planning every minute around rides.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
For guests who love indoor coasters, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a major EPCOT attraction. This high-energy ride combines a reverse launch, rotating ride vehicles, impressive visuals, and a soundtrack that helps give each ride its own personality.
It’s a favorite for many thrill-seekers and Marvel fans, but it isn’t for everyone. The combination of movement and spinning can be challenging for guests prone to motion sickness.
My planning tip: If you’re considering this attraction, be honest about your comfort level with coasters and motion. Check the current height requirement and ride details before you go. Lightning Lane Single Pass may be available, and the attraction uses a regular standby queue rather than the virtual queue that was previously offered.

Test Track
If you enjoy cars, technology, and a little speed, Test Track is worth considering. The attraction invites guests to explore automotive design and innovation before heading out for a high-speed test run.
The experience has been reimagined since its earlier version, so if you haven’t visited in a while, you may want to see what’s changed before your trip.
My planning tip: Test Track is another attraction to prioritize if it’s important to your group. Check the My Disney Experience app for current wait times and Lightning Lane availability on your park day.
Frozen Ever After
Frozen Ever After is a boat ride through the world of Frozen, with familiar characters, music, and scenes from the film. It’s a popular choice for families and anyone who loves Anna, Elsa, and Olaf.
This isn’t a high-speed attraction, but it does include dark scenes and a small backward movement and drop. Keep that in mind if anyone in your party is especially sensitive to those elements.
My planning tip: If Frozen is a must-do for your family, plan for it rather than assuming you’ll find a short wait later. Early Theme Park Entry may be helpful for eligible Disney Resort hotel guests, depending on the day’s hours and crowd levels.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Movies, Stories, and Thrills
Hollywood Studios packs a lot into one park, from Star Wars adventures to Toy Story fun and classic Hollywood-inspired attractions. Because some of its biggest rides are extremely popular, a little planning can go a long way.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
If you’re a Star Wars fan, Rise of the Resistance belongs on your shortlist. This elaborate attraction puts you in the middle of a conflict between the Resistance and the First Order, with multiple scenes and story moments that make it feel much bigger than a traditional ride.
Even guests who aren’t die-hard fans may appreciate the scale and detail of the experience.
My planning tip: Rise of the Resistance is popular, and waits can be substantial. Check the app before your visit and decide whether standby or an available Lightning Lane Single Pass makes the most sense for your budget and priorities.

Slinky Dog Dash
Slinky Dog Dash brings the world of Toy Story to life with a family-friendly coaster that winds through Andy’s backyard. Expect dips, turns, and plenty of playful details.
It’s a great option for families who want a coaster experience without choosing one of the park’s more intense rides.
My planning tip: Slinky Dog Dash is often one of Hollywood Studios’ most popular attractions. If it’s on your must-do list, check wait times and Lightning Lane Multi Pass availability in advance. You may want to make it a priority rather than hoping to fit it in at the end of the day.
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
Here’s a personal confession: I avoided Tower of Terror for years because I was afraid of the drops.
Eventually, I gave it a try—and I finally understood why so many guests consider it a Hollywood Studios classic. The spooky hotel setting, detailed storytelling, and unpredictable drop sequence make it much more than a simple elevator ride.
That doesn’t mean everyone needs to ride it. If free-fall sensations make you uncomfortable, it’s perfectly fine to skip it. But if you’ve been debating whether to give it a chance, this might be your nudge to consider it.
Check the current Lightning Lane options if it’s a priority for your day.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Wildlife and Adventure
Animal Kingdom is a little different from the other Disney World parks. Along with rides, it offers animal encounters, immersive lands, and opportunities to slow down and appreciate the surroundings. Don’t plan your day as if every experience needs to be a coaster!
Avatar Flight of Passage
Flight of Passage takes guests on a simulated flight over Pandora on the back of a banshee. The visuals and sense of movement create an immersive experience, and it’s one of the park’s headline attractions.
It’s especially appealing to fans of Avatar and guests who enjoy simulator-style rides. However, the motion and visual effects can be challenging for some people who experience motion sickness.
My planning tip: Flight of Passage is popular, so check current wait times and Lightning Lane Single Pass availability if it’s high on your list.
Expedition Everest
For coaster fans, Expedition Everest offers a mountain expedition with sharp turns, backward movement, and a close encounter with the legendary Yeti.
It’s one of Animal Kingdom’s more intense attractions and a good pick for guests who enjoy a big coaster experience.
If your group is comfortable splitting up, check whether a Single Rider line is operating when you visit. Availability and operating procedures can change, so confirm in the app or with a Cast Member.
Kilimanjaro Safaris

This is what Animal Kingdom is all about! Kilimanjaro Safaris takes you through a large, open wildlife habitat where you may see giraffes, elephants, lions, and many other animals.
No two trips are exactly alike because the animals move around on their own schedules. That’s part of what makes this experience so special.
My planning tip: Consider riding earlier in the day or later in the afternoon, depending on park hours and the conditions. Animal activity can vary, so there’s no guaranteed best time—but it’s worth giving the safari a spot in your plan.
A Few Things to Know Before You Plan Your Ride List
You don’t need to ride every attraction at Disney World to have a fantastic vacation. Here are a few things I’d keep in mind when deciding which rides make your personal must-do list.
- Think about your travel party. A toddler, a first-time visitor, a Disney adult, and a thrill-seeker may all have very different priorities.
- Check height requirements and ride descriptions. A ride’s popularity doesn’t mean it will be the right fit for everyone.
- Be realistic about motion sensitivity. Some attractions use spinning, screens, sudden movements, or drops. It’s okay to skip a ride that doesn’t sound enjoyable.
- Prioritize the most important attractions. Popular rides can have long waits, so decide which ones are worth planning around.
- Use the tools that fit your budget. Lightning Lane options may help reduce time spent waiting, but they’re an additional expense—not a requirement for a great trip.
- Leave some room for the unexpected. Shows, character encounters, snacks, and simply exploring the parks can become some of your favorite memories.
