This summer, we’ve been testing what it’s really like to visit each Walt Disney World park without Lightning Lane, Early Entry, or rope drop. All of this while surviving summer at Disney World—and today’s stop was Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Compared to Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot, this park has a totally different rhythm—and we leaned into it fully.
Quick Recap: Where We’ve Been So Far
In the first three blogs in this series, we tackled:

Magic Kingdom
- The most attractions of all four parks
- We skipped Early Entry and Lightning Lane
- Surprisingly doable with the right mindset and breaks
Hollywood Studios
- The smallest park, but packed with the most high-demand rides
- Skipping Lightning Lane made it the hardest day of the series
- Still fun—but slower, with lots of shows and crowd management
Epcot
- Opens later than the other parks
- Skipped Mult- Pass and Single Pass for Guardians of the Galaxy
- Different vibe but a few heavy hitter attractions
Why Animal Kingdom Is Different
Animal Kingdom is the largest park by land, but it has fewer attractions than the others. That means Lightning Lane Multi Pass isn’t as essential here.

Here’s what Lightning Lane pricing looked like for our visit:
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass: $16 per person
- Lightning Lane Single Pass for Flight of Passage: $15 per person
That’s much lower than other parks—and today, we passed on both. Disney resort guests staying on property can pre-purchase and reserve up to 3 attractions starting 7 days before they check-in. The general public can start planning 3 days before they visit the park.
No Tiers at Animal Kingdom

Another difference: when booking Lightning Lane Multi Pass here, there are no attraction tiers. You can pick any available rides—making it easier to customize if you do choose to buy.
Dinoland Construction Update
Currently, Dinoland U.S.A. is under construction, which impacts ride options.
Here’s what’s still open in that area:

- Dinosaur (attraction)
- Character meet-and-greets (Chip, Dale, Daisy, and others)
- Select snack spots and retail locations
While that limits options, the rest of the park still offers plenty of value.
The Heat Factor: Real, but Manageable
Statistically, Animal Kingdom is the hottest of the four Disney parks—thanks to its location and lush foliage.
But truthfully? It didn’t feel as intense as Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom.

That’s because Animal Kingdom has:
- Dense shade and landscaping
- Lots of covered seating
- Winding pathways instead of wide-open concrete areas
We still stayed vigilant with:
- Regular hydration
- Cooling breaks at lounges like Nomad Lounge or table service restaurants like Yak & Yeti
- Wearing breathable clothes and using fans/misters
What Makes This Park Special
Animal Kingdom is our favorite park for relaxing—and here’s why:
- The music, atmosphere, and scenery are soothing
- You’re encouraged to slow down and enjoy the pace
- There’s something magical about sitting near the Tree of Life, watching wildlife, or walking the trails

And let’s talk about the food—arguably the best of any Disney park besides EPCOT:
- Satu’li Canteen is fresh, flavorful, and unique
- Nomad Lounge is perfect for midday breaks
- Snack carts are well-curated and satisfying
Our Goal List for the Day
Without Lightning Lane or Early Entry, here’s what we aimed for:

- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Na’vi River Journey
- Festival of the Lion King
- Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!
- A walking trail like Gorilla Falls or Maharajah Jungle Trek
- A snack or meal at one of our favorite spots
- Optional: Flight of Passage if the wait dropped
And yes—just soaking in the atmosphere absolutely counts as a win at this park.
Should You Buy Lightning Lane Here?
Our verdict: probably not.
Unless:
- You only have one day
- You must ride Flight of Passage
- You’re visiting during the most crowded times (like holidays)
Otherwise, this park invites a slower, easier rhythm. And that’s part of the magic.
Keep in Mind: Hours Matter
One key difference with Animal Kingdom is its schedule:
- Early Entry: 7:30 AM
- Regular Opening: 8:00 AM
- Early Close: 7:00 PM (most days)
So, if you want to do it all, arrive early. But if your goal is to explore and relax? 9:00 AM or later works just fine—as we proved in our visit.
Final Thoughts
Animal Kingdom isn’t about racing between rides—it’s about taking your time, observing nature, and letting Disney storytelling unfold in a unique way.
Skipping Lightning Lane and Early Entry didn’t take away from our experience. In fact, it allowed us to enjoy the park in a calmer, more present way.
This might be the easiest park to visit without the upgrades—especially in summer—and for us, it felt like a true Disney day of discovery.
