Get Your Spot: Strategies to Sign up for runDisney

As signup for the final event in the runDisney 2024-25 season draws closer, let’s talk about the strategies you need to get that coveted spot.  The sign up for runDisney events can be an exciting and fulfilling experience!  These events, held at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World, combine the magic of Disney with the thrill of running.

The uniqueness of these events makes them incredibly popular among participants.  To ensure you have a smooth and successful registration process, here are five essential tips to consider!  First, allow me to encourage you to utilize the services of a travel professional who specializes in Disney destinations to book and plan your run-cation once you register for that special event.

Stay Updated on Registration Dates and Tips!

The runDisney events often sell out quickly due to their popularity. It’s crucial to stay informed about when registration opens for your desired event. Your first strategy to sign up for runDisney events is to be ready for the registration date!

Visit the official runDisney website or follow their social media channels to get the latest on registration dates and times. Set reminders on your calendar to ensure you don’t miss the registration window, as spots can fill up within hours. Also, sign up for the email newsletter. It provides reminders, updates and more for the upcoming events.

Choose Your Event and Distance Wisely

The runDisney events offer a variety of themed weekends throughout the year, each with distances ranging from 5Ks to one full marathon. Consider your fitness level and personal goals when choosing which event to sign up for. Your second strategy to sign up for runDisney events is to know which race you want to run.

If you’re a beginner, starting with a 5K or 10K might be more manageable than a half marathon or full marathon. Consider factors such as travel logistics and time commitments when making your decision.  Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Have Your Information Ready

Before registration opens, gather all necessary information such as your personal details and emergency contact information. Having this information readily available will streamline the registration process and reduce the risk of missing out on a spot due to delays in filling out forms. The next strategy to sign up for runDisney events is to be prepared.

You will be prompted to create a runDisney Account while completing the registration form for your choice of race.  You MUST have an account to participate so this step is crucial.

Be Prepared for Technical Challenges

Due to high demand, runDisney’s registration website may experience heavy traffic during peak times. Be patient and prepared for potential technical glitches.  At 10am EST on the date of registration, the event will open.  You will most likely find yourself in a “waiting room” with a predicted time of wait.  DO NOT REFRESH the screen!

There is some conflicting information on whether you should use multiple devices or browsers to increase your chances of securing a spot. Personally, I’ve never had more than one browser open. It’s also a good idea to have a stable internet connection to avoid disruptions during the registration process.  You are NOT registered for an event until you receive an email from runDisney confirming your spot.

What I’ve Learned

First, be careful of the autofill feature on your device.  Auto populate can incorrectly fill out the form.  Contact runDisney for assistance if your registration information is incorrect.   Secondly, even if you fill out the form and submit it AND your credit card is charged, you may not have a spot!  Any charges will be reversed if necessary.

Lastly, charity bibs are available and encouraged for anyone unable to register.   Quite a few charities have places open in runDisney events for those willing to raise funds for the cause.  Many charity groups offer help with travel, training and more to runners who accept the challenge.   A list of participating charities is available on the runDisney website.

Consider Early Registration Options

runDisney offers early registration opportunities for their club runDisney members.  You can choose the silver or gold level membership.  Each offers early registration, preference for merchandise purchase and more.

Whether you’re signing up for the events at Walt Disney World or trying to get a spot in the Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend events, you’ll be well-equipped to navigate the registration process for a runDisney event successfully with these tips. Remember, securing a spot is just the first step towards an unforgettable experience of combining your love for running with the magic of Disney!
