Why We Spent Our Disney Check-In Day at Typhoon Lagoon (And You Should Too)

There’s a good reason to love your arrival day at Walt Disney World. Disney is offering free water park admission on check-in day for guests staying at Disney-owned resorts and select nearby hotels. That includes the Walt Disney World Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green. This offer runs through 2026 and gave us the perfect excuse to start our trip with some serious fun in the sun at Typhoon Lagoon.

We recently spent our first day diving right into the magic — and the water — at Disney’s tropical-themed water park. It was the ideal way to relax, recharge, and enjoy a new experience without using up a theme park ticket.

The Surf Pool: A Wave You’ll Never Forget

Typhoon Lagoon’s iconic surf pool is the heartbeat of the park. Every 15 minutes or so, a massive wave rolls through, creating the perfect chance to body surf, float, or just enjoy the rush to shore.

Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a beach bum, this wave pool is unforgettable.

Top Thrill Attractions at Typhoon Lagoon

If you love water rides, Typhoon Lagoon has plenty to offer. One of the highlights for us was Crush n’ Gusher, a two-person water coaster that features twists, turns, and steep drops that land you in a skim pool. There is a 48-inch height requirement, but if you meet it, this one is a must-ride.

Another great family ride is Miss Adventure Falls — a four-person raft slide with no height requirement, making it a fun and inclusive option for the whole family. The storytelling and theming make it more than just a slide — it’s an adventure.

Kid-Friendly Splash Zones

Families with younger kids will love how much there is to do here. Ketchakiddee Creek is a special area designed for kids under 48 inches tall, complete with mini slides, splash zones, and shallow play areas. Older kids can explore, splash, and play safely in a space built just for them.

For slightly bigger kids (up to 60 inches tall), the Bay Slides are a perfect introduction to water slide fun. These smaller slides are gentle but exciting — great for first timers.

Time to Float: Castaway Creek and More

Need a break from the thrills? Castaway Creek is Typhoon Lagoon’s lazy river that winds its way through the park. With gentle currents, shade, and beautiful views, it’s the perfect way to cool down and take it easy. We spent a lot of time just floating and soaking in the atmosphere.

And that’s just the beginning — the park is full of other rides like Humunga Kowabunga, Gangplank Falls, Mayday Falls, Keelhaul Falls, and Storm Slides, each offering their own unique water ride experience.

Dining, Drinks, and Character Fun

One of the best surprises during our visit was seeing characters like Mickey and Minnie dressed in pool party outfits. These meet-and-greet moments added even more Disney magic to our day.

Typhoon Tilly's food location

When we got hungry, we had no trouble finding great food. From burgers and nachos to ice cream and frozen treats, the quick-service options had something for everyone. And for those who want to relax with a tropical drink in hand, Let’s Go Slurpin’ is the perfect spot to kick back after riding the waves.

Glow Up Your Night: H2O Glow After Hours

If you want to take your Typhoon Lagoon experience to the next level, check out H2O Glow After Hours, a separately ticketed nighttime event held on select nights through September 13. This 3-hour party offers low wait times, dance music, themed lighting, and a festive vibe that brings the park to life in a whole new way.

Why Typhoon Lagoon Was the Right Start to Our Trip

Choosing Typhoon Lagoon for our check-in day was one of the best decisions we’ve made at Walt Disney World. It was a perfect mix of excitement and relaxation, with plenty of magic and Disney touches. And knowing the water park admission was included just made it even sweeter.
