RunDisney Event at Tomorrowland

runDisney? 4 Reasons Why You Should!

Are you a runner, a run/walker, a walker or just a Disney Enthusiast?  The runDisney events give you the chance to experience running or walking through the 4 theme parks during events that are visibly spectacular, exciting, rewarding and FUN!

Here are just SOME of the reasons why I choose to run through the parks at the most magical place on Earth.  You should definitely consider it if you want to challenge yourself. You can reach your finish line with a little pixie dust.

First, for any Disney related travel plans, let me encourage you to use the service of a travel professional that specializes in Disney Destinations.

Costumes at runDisney Events

Running is HARD!  So, why not make it fun?  I love a themed run, and no one does it better than the runDisney community.  At a runDisney event there are thousands of participants dressed up, excited and showing support for each other.  I once saw a woman running as an infamous Disney Park traffic cone- hilarious.

The result is big smiles, laughter, some tears, and amazing photo opportunities. It’s also nice when you’re “hitting a wall” or struggling to find yourself running alongside a version of Captain Jack Sparrow. Run for the RUM!

Prizes Make It Worth It

Would you like a big, beautiful medal after all of your hard work?  Even the preview of these pieces of art is a highly anticipated event among RunDisney fans.

They are big and bold.  When you visit a Disney World theme park after an event you will see those finishers proudly displaying their treasure around their neck.  I have often wondered if I run for the accomplishment or the bling.

Options at runDisney Events

Whether you prefer a 5K or a full marathon, runDisney events offer it all and then some.  You can choose to do both! You can also choose to do all if you are very ambitious.  Running within the Disney parks is not only for long distance runners. Anyone can dress up, lace up their sneakers, and have a go.

But, for those who really want to conquer and impress, participants can choose to sign up for all the races one event weekend is hosting. That includes the 5K, 10K, Half-marathon and Full marathon over the course of 4 mornings.  Most event weekends include a 5K, 10K and Half marathon. A full marathon choice is available each January to anyone who has THAT on their bucket list.

Entertainment and Inspiration at RunDisney Events

I have run quite a few races in my time.  I can say with all confidence that there is no other event like a runDisney race. You will be cheered, encouraged, excited, and inspired.  Along each event route you hear marching bands, cheer squads, Disney characters and cast members shouting motivation, and holding up signs- most are very funny. They can be one heck of a push when facing some of the challenges of runDisney events.

Also, you’re running through a Walt Disney World theme park…or all of them!  When you turn the corner on to main street USA in Magic Kingdom at sun rise, the view of Cinderella Castle will choke you up- guaranteed!

If you are considering a runDisney Event, I highly encourage you to check their website, sign up for their mailing list and keep an eye on the registration dates for the event of your choice.

Disney Marathon Weekend

This event is held each January and the only event weekend to include a full marathon, plus a 5k, 10k and half-marathon.

Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Springtime Surprise Weekend

This weekend event is exactly that.  A surprise.  Events are announced close to the time of registration day.  This past year, the springtime involved a 5k, 10k, and a 10 miler Themed to individual theme park attractions.

runDisney events at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Ca will return in January of 2024. Participants who run events on both course during the same season are eligible for a special “Coast to Coast” challenge medal. As of now, the half marathon in January 2024 is the only event listed on the site.

Magical Vacation Extras

The timing of the runDisney Events at Disney World are also a great time to take advantage of Disney’s After-Hours Events and have an even more magical time with exclusive access to the parks! Moreover, the events are a good time to enjoy an adult based trip to Disney as well. Lastly- you run through the Disney World parks, so during your down time, try activities you can do outside the theme parks and take advantage of all the property has to offer!
