Packing for a Disney vacation can feel like a lot—especially when you’re adding a runDisney race into the mix. I’ll be heading to Walt Disney World in October for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon. I thought this would be the perfect time to share a packing list.
It blends theme park vacation must-haves with runDisney race-day essentials. Whether you’re here to cheer, race, or just enjoy the magic, these tips will help you be prepared and stress-free.
Theme Park Essentials
These items will keep you comfortable and ready for full park days, no matter which Disney or Universal destination you’re visiting:

- Comfortable Walking Shoes – You’ll log miles in the parks even without a race bib!
- Cooling Towel – Florida heat can sneak up on you, and a cooling towel makes a big difference.
- Refillable Water Bottle – Stay hydrated (and save money).
- Poncho or Lightweight Rain Jacket – Afternoon showers are always possible.
- Portable Phone Charger – Between Lightning Lanes, PhotoPass, and run tracking apps, your phone will be working overtime.
- Sunscreen – Florida sunshine is no joke—don’t forget to reapply.
- Sunglasses (with case) – You may not need them at 3 a.m. for race start, but once the sun rises, they’re a must. Bring a case so they don’t get damaged in your pocket.
- Day Bag or Backpack – Something easy to carry all the essentials.
- Snacks – A lifesaver – no “hangry” overspending.
- Travel-size First Aid Kit – Band-aids for blisters and other “just in case” items.
- MagicBand/Disney App Ready – Keep everything linked for easy access.
- Your Smile & Camera/Phone – Because the memories are priceless!
runDisney Race Essentials
Running a race at Walt Disney World is an entirely different adventure! Here are the race-day extras I recommend packing:

- Earplugs – Early start times mean runners arriving as early as 3 a.m. Be ready for quiet, restful sleep before & after.
- Body Glide or Anti-Chafing Stick – Essential for avoiding discomfort with seams, sweat, or rain.
- Your Fuel – Stick with what you’ve trained on. New gels or snacks can upset your stomach mid-race.
- Running Outfit + Backup – Socks, sports bra, everything tested and comfortable. Pack in your carry-on to avoid luggage delays.
- Running Shoes – Already broken in. Never debut new shoes at a race.
- Layers/Throwaway Clothing – Race mornings can be chilly, especially in January/February for Marathon and Princess Weekends.
- Sunscreen – Even early runs finish in the sun.
- Your Bib & ID – Obvious, but crucial!
- Wallet – runDisney merchandise sells out quickly—pins, shirts, and magnets are perfect souvenirs.
Conclusion
A little preparation goes a long way toward making your runDisney race and vacation truly magical. With the right gear, you’ll be prepared to focus on the miles, the characters, and the memories you’ll carry home.
