Disney always keeps us on our toes with its constant innovation. As someone deeply connected to the parks—both personally and professionally—I’ve learned to embrace change as part of the magic, and changes are coming in 2025! But the now the news of the planned closure of Muppet’s Courtyard to create Monstropolis on Grand Avenue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? That one has my emotions spinning like a teacup ride.
Monstropolis
Let me start by saying I’m a huge fan of Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. Sulley, Mike, and Boo have brought joy and laughter to countless families, and expanding their presence at Hollywood Studios is an exciting prospect. I can already imagine the bright colors, creative attractions, and immersive experiences Monstropolis could bring to the park. A door-hopping coaster or a laugh-out-loud comedy show with Mike Wazowski? Sign me up!
But here’s the rub—what happens to the Muppets?
Muppet’s Courtyard
Muppet’s Courtyard holds a nostalgic charm that feels quintessentially “old-school Disney.” Muppet Vision 3D has been around since 1991 and is one of the last attractions Jim Henson himself worked on. The humor, the whimsy, and the delightful chaos of the Muppets fit so perfectly into the spirit of Hollywood Studios. Losing this space to make way for Monstropolis feels bittersweet.
On the flip side, there’s another idea circulating that has me feeling oddly optimistic: the possibility of re-theming Rock n’ Roller Coaster with a Muppets twist. Imagine the Electric Mayhem rocking out as Dr. Teeth and the gang take us on a wild ride through Muppet-inspired chaos! I can almost hear Animal yelling, “GO FAST!” as the coaster blasts off.
Rock N’ Roller Coaster
Sure, I’m a fan of Aerosmith, but let’s be honest—the partnership feels dated. Giving the attraction a fresh, Muppet-infused storyline could inject new life into it while keeping the humor and nostalgia alive. The Muppets deserve a bigger presence in the parks, and this could be a brilliant way to give them that spotlight while still transitioning Muppet’s Courtyard into something new.
As someone who thrives on sharing Disney’s magic with others through my business, DizN Vacations with Jessica Yashin, I know that change in the parks can be an emotional rollercoaster (pun intended). When a beloved attraction or area is reimagined, there’s always that pang of sadness for what we’re leaving behind. But there’s also the thrill of imagining what’s next—a chance for new memories and adventures to unfold.
So, while I’ll miss the quirky, felt-covered chaos of Muppet’s Courtyard, I’m cautiously optimistic about what Disney might create. Whether it’s Monstropolis or a Muppet-mad coaster, I know this much: the magic is far from over.
What do you think? Should Disney preserve the Muppets’ legacy or let Monstropolis take center stage? Let’s chat in the comments! The conversation is always more magical with fellow fans.
